Hey-o

So, look. I had an update for you last week, but then Blogger was down and then I had to get back to work, nawmsayin?

Sorry for the absence. After this week, I'll be able to get back into a regular routine. Meanwhile, this pretty much sums up my approach toward the rest of the week:

Of COURSE, I continue to knit. Right now, I'm working on something totally incongruent with the amount of gifts I should be making for other people. It's a "shawl" but most likely will be warn as a scarf and it's a super fast knit. The following was cast on and knitted on a bus ride to and from work:

It's a deeper purple than pictured and it's a great deal of Barney to be draping around one's shoulders, but being able to finish something quickly with yarn that's just sitting there brings me joy. It's called the Procrastination Shawl for a reason.

I also finished my project for my Ravelry Swap/One group and got it all mailed off to Canada yesterday!

FIN
Now I'm off to have the most productive day in history at work. At least, it better be. Join me, won't you?!

U cold?

I'm 'in training' for a very short race on June 16. It's a 5K and I know that your average person can knock that out after eating a plate of nachos on Super Bowl Sunday, but for me, it's the ULTIMATE CHALLENGE. I'm not a good runner, never have been. I'm slow and I panic when I feel like I can't breath, so it takes me a while to get back in the swing of things.

Update: I'm running the in Jim Gibbons Traffic Jam 5K in support of the Leukemia Research Foundation. If you'd consider giving a few bucks to the cause to support my efforts, it would be most appreciated in addition to being money-well-donated. If you're laughing at the idea of me running in any sort of road race at all, please donate $100 now. Don't I entertain you ENOUGH? To donate, click here.

If I take time off from running consistently, I automatically go back to square one where I can only go a half-mile. So, as you have calculated in that brilliant little head of yours, that's not anywhere close to the 3.1 miles I need to build up to. Therefore, this week has left me feeling a little defeated and so I'm not feeling especially bloggy. I shall keep you posted - I'm going to be running after work today so I have NO EXCUSES. We'll see how that goes!

Since I'm in the defeatist mind-set, I need to once again celebrate a small victory! I completed a little knitting project - a Mug Cozy! (We're Just That Awesome Cozy from Sweatshop of Love)

I was testing the pattern out for a swap I'm participating in via Ravelry. My partner lives in Canada and loves pink & purple, so I felt bad forcing my favorite color on her:

Verdict: I'll just keep this little winner for myself and modify the pattern for a larger gauge to use up some of my pink Lion Brand Cotton ease left over from the baby blanket I made my cousin. Hey, it's the little things!

Brain too tired for a good blog post

So, instead, I'm going to post some possible brown boot candidates!

South Beach Diet: Day 1

So, it's a diet. And it's been a full day. I'm full but not of the stuff I really wanted to taste - any surprise?

It's hard to be enthusiastic about discipline/ not eating junk food and therefore, my blogging is really suffering. Blame the South Beach!

Because I'm depressed about the Colts AND because I love me some carbs, below is a photo montage of food I missed today:

Heck ya, I'm going for the gold!

Ok, I'm without Monrovia... and frankly, I'm have very little to say about last night's episode. So, I just have a few open letters.

Dear Blane:
You are TRYING to be ridiculous and therefore you come off as desperate. You have to be older than I am, and even I know Sgt. Pepper. At least you look older than me... it could be the tanning. Have I mentioned that I'm over you? ARG!

Dear Daniel:
It's the Olympics. I don't care how artistic sullen you had to be to protect yourself as a poor effeminate child at boarding school. You know what the Olympics are. Even if you haven't seen the opening ceremony... TAKE A FREAKING GUESS.
Athletes. At a major event centered around sports. You are not fooling anyone with your shiz.
This is what he made:
(P.S. Kenley, you dress well. I'm over hating the flower)

Dear Jerell:

You are a silly, silly snake in a fanciful army hat. SILLY!
THIS is what he made:

Dear Joe:

You used the term "Queens" in a straight-guy exasperated tone, which has probably been interpreted as bigoted. You should sleep with one eye open and a cup (ostensibly left over from your football days). At least I actually remembered what you made this time.

Dear Terri:
Hang in there, lady. Don't let the hot gay that stole your fabric get you down. You are the only voice of reason in this bunch and I need to you stick around. P.S. the closed caption when you said "Oh no he didn't!" actually was spelled "O, no he di''nt!"
And you really rocked this challenge:

Korto won and it was...fine. But highwaisted white paints plus 12 year old gymnisists?! No. And Holly Gosadsack went home, which should have happened last week. She's back to Italy to continue her "surreal" life. And Apollo Anton Ono finally shaved that flavor savor and looks really foine.

And that's all I can manage. Once again, boring ass challange and poor, poor design.

Bravo, I know you're bitter... but you're killing me, Smalls!

Let's talk about it....

This is a super long video from C-SPAN, which is probably two strikes for any sane reader.

However, what follows is a truly interesting discussion about coverage of controversial topics and "main stream media" versus the "blogosphere" and other non-traditional media. It's presented by UNITY: Journalists of Color

Both of my readers will probably not take the hour and a half to view this, but you should still click here and watch for a few minutes. You won't be able to pull away. The overall point that I really respected was that, in fact, some white people DO care about what's going on in the black community. It may come as a surprise, but I am one of those people. I know. It's nutty -- a white girl from Indiana who doesn't heart Fox news?!?! Get out of town! It's that wacky liberal arts degree.

This is a video intro to the UNITY conference in Chicago. It's a little more punchy, so maybe you'll take a gander.

And full disclosure: I don't have a mission statement nor do I have a copy editor/ fact checker. I am not a reputable news source - but I AM interesting... so... trade off?
